FAQs: The Competence Center Answers
IO-Link Network
Is IO-Link a new fieldbus?
No, it is an extension of the fieldbus network.
In fact, the IO-Link Master, which acts as a gateway between the fieldbus network and the IO-Link network, is a Fieldbus Slave.
How much and what data can be transferred via IO-Link?
IO-Link is a type of bi-directional communication with 32 bytes in input and 32 bytes in output.
In addition to process data - which are cyclical data - IO-Link also transmits other data, including: error messages, warnings and diagnostics data, as well as parameters. These are acyclic data.
Are the Over IO-Link gateways IO-link Safety?
No, Over IO-Link Gateways are Master that take advantage of the safety protocols of the fieldbuses to transmit FS data to normal IO-Link Safety or IO-Link devices.
