Italy is full of entrepreneurial stories that have been able to create value and have contributed to creating the idea of ​​Made in Italy as style, ingenuity, and creativity.

Duplomatic MS, born in the heart of Lombardy 70 years ago, has been able to constantly grow, innovate and it is today a large international group, present in all industrial areas of the world, with a future of growth ahead. 

Therefore 2022 for us is not just a corporate anniversary, but it represents a real turning point that has deep roots in our history.

Let us retrace it together….

The first steps
It all started from an intuition of Mr. Angelo Girola who, general manager of an important manufacturer of parallel lathes, came into possession, at the beginning of the 1950s, of a project for the construction of a hydraulic copier. He immediately understood the importance of this product, which would have been capable of transforming the industry, passing from an artisanal to mass production.

The copier, in fact, is a product that allows to reproduce turned parts, drastically reducing lead times, copying, and reproducing a specific shape.

Mr. Girola thus begins a series of tests on prototypes within the company where he works. He soon has the confirmation that the copier is a project that can give positive results for the future.

The founding of Duplomatic

On June 26^th, 1952, Mr. Girola founded Duplomatic, in a two hundred m2 industrial building in Busto Arsizio (Varese), Italy, with four employees to produce copiers.

The copier is a complex product, because it uses a mechanical servo valve to copy a shape. The first prototypes are exhibited at the Milan trade fair, an important showcase in which to show the market that new company owns this technology and associate it with Duplomatic to avoid competition.

In 1954 Mr. Chiappulini, professor at the Politecnico di Milano, a great expert in servosystems, joined Duplomatic. He oversaw perfecting the copier to maintain leadership in an industrial world where competition and product innovation capacity were remarkably high.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the increase in production of copiers and other hydraulic-controlled devices pushed Duplomatic to undertake a new initiative: the design and manufacture of hydraulic components. At first, they are used only in support of copying devices, later they were offered to the market. The hydraulic division is born.

After these first steps, Duplomatic is ready to tackle the foreign market as well, thanks to the entry into the company of Mr. Nuzzolese who, between the end of the 1960s and the early 1970s, became General Manager and represents the first company manager. Thank to his international experience, he initiated the promotion of copiers on the American market and began to build the network of branches in Italy and abroad.

By 1972, Duplomatic has more than four hundred employees and two offices: the copiers division in the new 7,000 sqm plant in Busto Arsizio (Varese) and the hydraulic division that is transferred to a 16,000 sqm plant in Legnano (Milano). These are two distinct divisions, with different managers and separate technical departments.

In 1991, another major step towards today's success was made: Duplomatic Sistemi was born, today this is called BU Hydraulic Systems: through the application of hydraulics to machine tools and to many other sectors, this division was able to respond to the increased requirements of customers through innovative, flexible solutions as the result of its hydraulics experience and Research & Development.

This division started with twenty-six employees, and, over the years, it has been increasing production. Today the BU has over sixty employees on two facilities in Italy and it is developing power units, manifolds, and cabinets for multiple sectors, including energy and the naval through its lubrication systems, including large ones.

Recently, this BU also took care of a global excellence project: the motion of the wings of the roof of the United Arab Emirates pavilion in Dubai, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava on EXPO 2020, which ended just a few months ago.

The development of recent years, featuring a strong interest in internationalization, the organization in increasingly specialized BUs - such as the BU Mechatronics, dedicated to electric actuators and solutions for industry 4.0 - in addition to the combination of industrial solutions with the mobile ones is the result of the vision of Roberto Maddalon, current CEO and president of Duplomatic Group.

In recent years, in fact, Duplomatic's strategy has led to the acquisition of major international brands such as Continental Hydraulics, dedicated to the production of components for industry in North America, Hydreco Hydraulics, specialized in solutions for the mobile sector, up to the most recent: Till Hydraulik in Germany, which produces hydraulics for mobile applications.

In the history of Duplomatic and in its DNA, a fundamental part is occupied by training and the strong will to collaborate closely with higher education and university institutions. Mr. Girola had a close relationship with the Salesian technical institutes, with which he shared training programs and the recruitment of qualified personnel. Over time, relations with university have also strengthened, gradually expanding with other universities, such as Federico II of Naples, Italy and LIUC in Castellanza (Varese), Italy and others in the world.

An in-house training center - the Duplomatic Academy - was created, which in recent years has also become digital, offering online courses open to an external public.
