Here we are! Only a few weeks to go until Expo 2020, an amazing project in which the United Arab Emirates have heavily invested to confirm to the world their image of a state-of-the-art country, ready to accept the demanding challenges ahead.

Duplomatic played a leading role in all of this. Involved in this adventure by a lucky coincidence born from our innovative capacity, we contributed with the development of the roof motion system of the UAE national pavilion of Expo 2020: designed and engineered by the architect Santiago Calatrava.

Duplomatic has been committed in the project on different aspects, from the initial design phase of the system architecture, including the automation part, to the development and production of components, up to the installation and commissioning of the system, culminating in the formal testing and commissioning activity, which is currently being completed.

The operation of the construction site in Dubai required the setup of a dedicated branch, Duplomatic Middle East, a company with its own structures and processes, which managed the implementation phase of the construction site as well as the supply chain on the UAE market, including the choice and management of subcontractors involved in the different phases of construction: during the peak of the installation works, between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, we managed approximately 50 people on site.

We faced many difficulties: the first Covid-19 pandemic, which slowed down to a complete stop of construction site activities, making operations that were simple before the pandemic complex, then going through the bankruptcy of our client, the main construction company in the UAE, Arabtec Construction, famous for having built the Burj Khalifa and the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi.

Thanks to hard work, dedication, spirit of sacrifice and focus on the final goal, combined with the continuous pursuit of excellence, we are finally reaching the much desired goal.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to all the colleagues who contributed to this prestigious result, especially those who worked behind the scenes to facilitate our work on site.

On October 1^st EXPO 2020 Dubai will open, but our challenge continues.

As we do in our daily work with our customers, developing and implementing a project is never the only goal we pursue. For this reason, we are negotiating directly with EXPO a new agreement for support to the operations and planned preventive maintenance, which will be carried out every night seven days a week by our team of highly qualified specialists to guarantee the full efficiency of the system during the six months of the event. This is our philosophy, even at EXPO!
